2024: The Year of Finally
Many people have laid aside the idea of New Year’s Resolutions in favor of The Word of the Year. They head into the New Year with a meaningful word of their choosing. It’s an attempt to simplify a goal and serves as a reminder throughout the year. For some, that word may be “peace” or “joy”. For me, I knew it wasn’t a noun that I needed.
I have so, so many good intentions, but I don’t always act on them. As friends and family can attest, I showed great interest in kayaking for years before I ever got out on the water. But then I did, finally. And I absolutely loved it. My only regret was not acting on my interest sooner. The intention was certainly there, but my action was not. I then thought that maybe my word should be a verb to help get me in the headspace to take action. However, there are so many things I want to do, how could I just settle on one?
Then, I remembered how rewarding it was to finally be out on the water in my own kayak. Finally, I thought to myself, finally is my word!
